Truly Honored

I would personally like to thank Ambition In The City for nominating me for the Very Inspiring Blogger Award. I think the timing is incredible because I have been meaning to read more blog posts from the 8 bloggers that I listed below and this encouraged me to do so. Also too, this is my 3rd week anniversary (or almost a month, you could say) writing on So This Is Now.

Cristina Reyeros has been blogging for Ambition In The City since 2011 and has had over 7,000 blog hits. To have been nominated by someone who has had such a successful blogging experience and high level of engagement with her readers, is very inspiring and moving. My favorite post happens to be “Chasing Happiness” that Cristina posted in March. I highly recommend a quick read – “While the journey and all its ups and downs are what really help people to achieve a happy life, I like so many others, lost sight of the hours and days spent trying to achieve happiness and never allowed myself to just be. In my 28 years of life, I struggled to find happiness in all things. Whether it was in my academic career, my romantic relationships, or even my work life, my motivation was always to do great now so I can be even greater later. I never sat down to enjoy small success or minor victories.”

7 Lil’ Tidbits:

 1. [this is a lot harder than I thought it would be] I am a creative soul and have uncovered some sketches I drew back in 2007 and am sad I haven’t picked up a pencil or pen with no objective other than to tap into my creative side for the past 6+ years. I have considered dedicating a day to draw. Especially after attending Austin’s 2nd Annual Craft Riot Summer Show and meeting Lisa Chow – a wonderfully talented and delightful person whose art is breathtaking with detail. Maybe, I can build up the courage to create an Etsy account and sell my drawings and up-cycled clothing soon.

2. As many people consider me an extrovert, my biggest thrill would be to have a little house in the mountains, away from all the distraction and hustle of what life has become and with no modern technology but running water. I also have this dream to have a garden and a small porch with a swing to drink homemade lemonade.

3. I collect: ticket stubs, stamps, greeting cards (from every occasion),unique coins, fortune cookie fortunes and four leaf clovers. My favorite fortune cookie fortune read: “Come back later… I’m sleeping (yes, fortune cookies need their sleep too). Can you imagine be a fortune cookie note writer? But that brings me to my 4th point…

4. I can sleep anywhere anytime. I need a minimum of 7 hours to be fully functioning and I snore, kick and talk in my sleep. Anyone who shares a bed, room, car or any place else where I’ve fallen asleep, to them I’m a sleeping kill joy.

5. I was adopted from Seoul, Korea when I was eighteen months and have yet to return to uncover files from my adoption. Unsolved mysteries, you could say.

6. I enjoy making chicken noodle soup from the “home ready-cooked” chickens from the grocery store.

7. I am deeply considering creating a page on my blog called: “Humanizing the Homeless” and interviewing a select group of homeless people and documenting their story. I was listening to the radio a couple of months ago, on my way to work, and heard the phrase, “homeless people seem to fade into the background here in Austin because there are just so many of them.” To me, I felt almost ashamed and curious. I truly wondered… how much do they make? Do they get unemployment? What if I were to stand out on a street corner for a day (as a social experiment) and see how much money I got? I find their stories interesting and moving and often wonder: “how many of them have college degrees? Or had a 6-figured job where they squandered their money?” It truly is an interesting topic for me because when people are faced with turmoil and defeat, other people’s opinions are the last thing that matter.
